Providers

The providers who provide services for the BarCARES program are chosen very carefully. Dr. Charles Cooper, the BarCARES project director also serves as the Director of Professional Affairs for the North Carolina Psychological Association and works with providers across the state. When a local bar association or Judicial District opts into BarCARES, we solicit information from them about providers they would like to have working with their program. They know which providers are well-regarded locally and would appeal to their members. Based on their recommendations and the approval of Dr. Cooper, these providers are contacted and offered the opportunity to work with BarCARES. As utilization increases, more providers may be added to each local network. If an unusual circumstance arises which requires a specialized service, we will find an area clinician or consultant who can provide the service or offer telephone consultation with someone who may not be local. Program users are always free to see providers in neighboring programs if confidentiality is a concern.
